George Washington's World - King Frederick of Prussia

King Frederick did not want to be a soldier and he almost refused to point-blank, but his father made him by force. And then his father died. But after his father died, King Frederick found out that another King of Austria had died, leaving his young daughter for the throne. After Frederick saw that his time had come; he made up some story about how the girl had no right to be on the throne of Austria, marched in and declared the land his.

But the girl, Marie Therese Hapsburg, came from a long line of demanding ancestors, so she declared war because she did not want to lose her land. But after two years of fighting, with cheeks burning red with anger, she was obliged to see that Frederick made the land his. That meant she was now pretty much his slave and had to do everything he asked her to do.

  1. Marie Therese was a remarkable woman. She cared very much for the people in her country, particularly the serfs (who were tied to the land where they worked, and led a very hard life. I wish her husband had not died so young, they might have accomplished great things together.
